Abstract

Sexual violence between siblings: Psychodynamics and support

The relationship between siblings is based on closeness and a lot of knowing about one another. It is part of the family relationships, what can mean solidarity and affiliation, but also jealousy, desertedness, anger or hatred. And always it means unequal relationships. These unequal relationships are the basis for one child, to live its sexual desire or also its anger or disappointment at the expense of the sibling without the possibility for this child to defend or to look for help.

This lecture describes the dynamic behind sexual abuse and combines it to the situation of siblings. For helping the family, it is important to take care of the situation of the parents, who normally try to stick the family together. There is always the risk to do this without caring enough for the abused child.
